Shusha Musical Drama Theatre

Since 1848s in Shusha between intellectuals awaken inclinationto show theatre spectacles thanks to benefiting from Russian progressive theatres. Of course, in this work the role of historical condition, enlightenment movement expanding in the Transcaucasia was not less. Without doubt, occurring modern theatre spectacles in Shusha , at the first half of the 21th century was connected with influence of the Tiflis cultural environment. Advanced persons of that time were calling Russian culture and literature workers to help get education of the indigenous population. There were two big spectacle centre ,theatre and circus still 1848 in Shusha. Shusha One of most carried out activity theatre centre at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century .

In the another cities of the country theatres was interfering to the way of life more active. From this side Shusha theatre involves attention most of all. Shusha theatre has endowed to Azerbaijan theatre a number of remarkable, Unforgettable and Irreplaceable dratamtists, Composers, Actors such as Yusif bəy Məlikhəqnəzorov, Abdurrahim bey Asad bey oglu Hagverdiyev (playwright, stage director, politician and public figure), Zulfugar Hajibeyov (composer), Suleyman Sani Akhundov (playwright, journalist, childrens author, and teacher) , Uzeyir bey Hajibeyov (composer, conductor, publicist, playwright, teacher, translator), Firidun bey Kocharli (writer, philologist and literary critic), Badalbay Badalbayov (Enlighter), S.VaIibayov, Jabbar Garyagdioglu (Azerbaijani folk singer), Hasim Bekh Vazirov(Teacher, publicist, translator).

Attention became more stronger to this area in 1870. Apparently, wide thoughtful intellectual of Shusha had worked resolvedly to create theatre spectacles, to broaden the activities of the hard workers club.

In Shusha the theatre spectacles began to be shown regularly since 1882. Every summer vacation teachers has got together and were showing spectacles. In first years was shown spectacles consisted of only M.F.Akhundzadeh`s plays. The main roles played Yusif bəy Məlikhəqnəzərov, Haşim bəy Vəzirov, Bədəlbəy Bədəlbəyov, Firudin bəy Köçərli, Həsənəli Sarıcalinski, Mirzə Mııxtar Məmmədov, İsmayıl Şəfibəyov, Cabbar Qaryağdı oğlu .

Building of old club in Shusha has been repaired anew in 1871 and Local amateurs have shown spectacles here. In 1888 with agitation Dubrovsky they performed M.F.Akhundzadeh`s plays again. In the next years amateurs performed spectacles in the Khandemirov`s theatre building. The number of teachers and intellectuals showing interest in the theatre increased in Shusha from 1890, from their inside occur person who showed interest to write stage work.

Music morning held in Shusha real school in 1890 has had the strong influence. Spectacle was prepared by the children with the initiatives of Actors teachers. Children told story, fable, poem in Azerbaijan, French, German languages they had song in the chorus. Children have translated piece of story, fable and poem there to Russian. The play of ``Marriage isn `t drink water`` (Evlənmək su içmək deyil) was put on stage in 1892. Also they performed "Hacı Qara", "Müsyo Jordan və dərviş Məstəli şah", "Xırs quldurbasan" in 1984. ``The Breaking of Unity`` was put on stage inShusha in 1896. The producer of the both spectacles was A.B.Hagverdiyev. The spectacles gained great success and this success encouraged the amateurs. Later amateurs began to prepare wonderful spectacles one after another.

The first east concert took place in 1896 in Shusha, under the guidance of A.B. Hagverdiyev . Saz players and mugham singers such as Əbdülbaqi Zülalov, Keçəçi oğlıı Məhəmməd, Cabbar Qaryağdı oğlu, Məşədi Dadaş, Zabul Qasım, məşhur tarzən Sadıqcan, Məşədi Zeynal, Balaoğlu, kamançaçı Bağdagüloğlu and others performed in the concert. After this concert spectators look at the "Leyli və Məcnıın" by Fuzuli ( Azerbaijan poet, writer and thinker) and "Məcnun Leylinin qəbri üstündə" by A.B.Hagerdiyev. This spectacle praising high love has passed through very effective. Naturalist signs had been striking here. Revolutionary leaflets was spreading in the spectacles time.

Shusha State Mysical Drama Theatre began activities according to the order of the Council of Ministers of Azerbaijan on 11th of May,1990 and according to the order of Ministry of Culture and tourism Republic of Azerbaijan on 25th of May, 1990.

After occupation of Shusha in May 1992 theatre moved to Baku and continues activities in the building of the Azerbaijan State Young Spectators Theatre.

Except national playwrights` plays Russian and Western Europe classics` plays were also appealed in the theatre. In the repertoire of the theatre we can see classic and modern Azerbaijan literature. The most beautiful examples of the world dramatic composition, very interesting spectacles.

Theatre have been honoured with ``Gold Hermit`` prize for the spectacle «Əyri oturaq, düz danışaq» by U. Hajibeyov, in 2002.
