Tofig Guliyev
(1917-2000)

Tofig Guliyev was born in Baku, 1917. He became a student of Baku Conservatoire. He continued education in Moscow State Conservatoire. Returning to Baku He organized the first State Pops Orchestra together with Niazi in 1939.

In the area of national cinema Activities of the composer is irreplaceable. Tofig Guliyev wrote more than 30 compositions for cinema films such as - "Səbuhi", "Görüş", "Qızmar günəş altında", "Sən həmişə mənimləsən", "Möcüzələr adası", "Qaynana", "Şir evdən getdi", "Bəxtiyar", "Ögəy ana" and others.

His operettas included "Aktrisa", "Qızıl axtaranlar", "Sənin bircə sözün", "Ella, sabahın xeyir". He got involved in composing spectacle music- "Qəribə Adam", "Aydın", "Eloğlu", "Şirvan gözəli", "Uzaq sahillərdə", "On ikinci gecə" and others.

During the Soviet period, in 1958 Guliyev was named "Honored Art Worker of Republic of Azerbaijan". And in 1959 awarded the "Order of the Red Labor Banner of the USSR" and the "Medal for Heroic Labor" during World War II. In 1964 Tofig Guliyev was named Peoples Artist of Azerbaijan.
